An objective test called the Brain Stem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA) allows us to determine the subject's approximate average hearing threshold level. The objective evaluation of an adult or child's hearing threshold across all frequencies, with the exception of low frequencies, requires a time-consuming but highly dependable test.The word "objective" means that, unlike most hearing tests, the patient is not needed to indicate whether or not they are hearing the sound and to respond subjectively to the sound stimulus. The BERA test is particularly helpful in determining the hearing status of tiny children and challenging-to-test adults since it can automatically determine the patient's hearing threshold, or how much they are hearing.
