The otoacoustic emission test (OAE) assesses the function of hair cells in the inner ear. The sound produced within the normal cochlea of the ear in response to stimulation is referred to as an emission. OAE testing is utilized for a variety of purposes, including baby screening and screening of other particular groups. The OAE test is noninvasive and involves inserting a tiny probe into the ear. The patient is shown a succession of tones or clicking sounds. The test is performed in a tiny sound booth, and the patient is supposed to remain calm and silent throughout the procedure. The exam takes around 30 minutes, following which the audiologist will inform you of the results.
